App or web browsers can now read the decision letter.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that the VA Health and Benefits mobile app is now compatible with software for the visually impaired, allowing blind veterans to read the decision letters documenting the extent of their disability coverage for themselves.
“One of the biggest things that Veterans get is their rating decision,” explained Claudia Baldwin, a blind Veteran who has been working on accessibility issues with the VA and the Blind Veterans Association (BVA) for the past 15 years. “No blind Veteran can read it. It’s paper. It’s a huge document sent to you, and someone has to read it to you.”
Individual decision letters are now available both through mailed paper and on the mobile app. Vision-impaired veterans can have their letters read to them digitally using either a web browser or a third-party text-to-voice reading app.
